Kastanitsa is one of the oldest and most beautiful villages of the Peloponnese, nestled in the mountainous chestnut groves on the slopes of Mount Parnon. With its tower houses and flowery courtyards, whitewashed cobblestone streets and traditional lanterns, it has been classified as a village of special natural and architectural beauty since 1967 and is also one of the largest producers of chestnuts in Greece.
During the 40th Chestnut Festival, organized for the last 40 consecutive years, which will take place this year on October 26th and 27th, visitors will have the opportunity to experience a unique folklore; tasty delicacies, “glenti” in the squares of the village, music and dance and the chance to learn everything about this precious fruit…
You can also visit the Kastanitsa Environmental Information Center to learn about the Tsakonians and their customs, the rich nature of Parnonas and the lime kilns, as the village was famous for its lime production in the 20th century.
