“Athens. The city is the museum.”

Welcome to a new online platform, available at www.athens.withgoogle.com, that opens up Athens to visitors who want to experience the “rhythm” of the city and discover its lesser-known corners in an innovative way – also by “listening” to the city through the stories of its people…

The city itself is a museum – from the street art, to the restaurants serving contemporary modern cuisine, to the nightlife and venues that showcase a different side of the city.

How does the platform work?

Once a user selects one of the platform’s suggested routes, a map appears on the screen. The map shows a route with pins corresponding to suggested stops, which in turn correspond to audio content. A dotted line, just like on Google Maps, will guide the user from one point to another. The user will also be able to select any stop along the route and be automatically redirected to go directly to the chosen point. Athenians can be heard sharing their favourite places and stories that define the city.

The first proposed route of the “Athens. The City is the Museum” platform offers a walk through the busy neighbourhoods of Metaxourgeio, Kerameikos, Psirri and Omonia, while more routes/audio walks are expected to be added by the end of the year.
