Epidaurus

Bike along the beautiful coastline north of Villa Starlett amid olive groves and deep blue waters. A little later enter the Argolid plains and bike in quiet streets, often under the shade of big eucalyptus trees. You are now close to Ancient Tirintha where one can contemplate the cyclopean fortifying walls dating back to the glory days of King Agamemnon. Soon, and for a long stretch past Agios Adrianos, you will be riding along vast orange orchards while here and there small hills are popping up in the surrounding landscape. You are now riding on a playfully winding road as part of a carpet made of wild thyme and different types of grass along with olive trees and cypresses. The road now starts to become steeper and the uphill will not stop before you reach the sacred land of Ancient Epidaurus. You have reached Moni Karkala and you will also go past Metochi, Arkadiko and finally the legendary village of Lygourio which literally pulses on summer weekends after an ancient greek tragedy show has finished at the theater not far from there. You are now approaching the sacred area of Ancient Epidaurus. The Sanctuary of Asclepius, Father of Medicine, stands on your left and straight ahead is the way to the breathtakingly beautiful ancient theater of Epidaurus, dating back to 340 BC. A visit to the site is optional. Hop on your bikes again and start heading south with direction to Kantia. After a short uphill part, the road becomes downhill and stays like that until you reach Kantia. For this part the route is refreshing as the scenery changes constantly with only just one element remaining the same: the view of the Argolid deep blue sea. From Kantia you go right and after passing by Kondyli beach and its secluded little bay, you’ll go through Vivari and will eventually reach the charming city of Nafplio. It is always a good chance to go for a stroll in the narrow old streets of the town and maybe enjoy a refreshment or a coffee in one of the squares of the first modern Greek capital. If you choose not then it’s not a long way back to the villa, you just need to follow the coastal road to Kyveri and continue south until you head back to villa Starlett.
